Activity coefficients are fundamental to process development and equipment design in the chemical industries. ASOG group-contribution method is one predictive method for activity coefficients. Some thermophysical properties can be evaluated using the activity coefficients.

This article shows the present status of ASOG parameters, and reviews with the prediction of the following thermophysical properties and application;

1.Vapor-liquid equilibria

a. Low-pressure vapor-liquid equilibria

b. High-pressure vapor-liquid equilibria (PRASOG)

c. Infinite-dilution activity coefficients

d. Water activities in sugar food and polyols

e. Vapor-liquid equilibria for systems containing electrolytes

f. Vapor-liquid equilibria for systems containing polymers

2. Solubilities

a. Liquid-liquid equilibria (ASOG-LLE)

b. Gas solubilities

c. Solid-liquid equilibria

d. Solid-vapor equilibria (PRASOG)

3. Excess enthalpies and excess entropies (ASOG-HE)

4. Liquid kinematic viscosities (ASOG-VIS)

5. Application

 a. Solvent selection for extractive distillation and liquid-liquid extraction

 b. Distillation calculation

 c. Thermodynamic efficiency

 d. Solvent effect on reaction rate

Some thermophysical properties can be calculated using CD-ROM.
