The solution displacement method is a common technique used to experimentally determine the zeta potential of substrates for electrokinetic and electrophoretic applications. However, this method requires modification when dealing with inhomogenous substrates, non-uniform geometries, and large concentration differences. In this work we describe a model that can be used in all microfluidic, electrokinetic and electrophloretic applications of the solution displacement method to determine zeta potential.
