The NSERC sponsored Canadian Biomaterials and Chemical Network is conducting exciting new research to develop lignin-derived carbon-fiber composites for strong, light automobile parts, carbon aerogels for hydrogen storage, and new biobased polymers. The aim of this paper is to introduce our initial work toward the development of nanofiber technology platforms to deliver this next generation of renewable biomaterials and chemicals from lignin.
