Production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) is expensive due to supplementary carbon source and down stream processing. In this work, to minimize the fermentation carbon source cost PHA is extracted from waste sewage sludge. To minimize the down stream processing cost and improve the recovery efficiency, different solvents and different extraction strategies were applied in this work. Potential fuel additives from PHA’s will also be discussed.
