Numerous applications of subcritical and supercritical fluids for separations have been evaluated for applications ranging from the treatment of industrial wastes to production of pharmaceuticals and other high value products. The technologies considered include extraction, precipitation, and chromatography. The development from concept, to end point - experimental testing, design and fabrication, and operation is presented for select applications. The keys to the various processes transitioning from technical success to commercial success are highlighted.
