This presentation will provide a general overview of industrial practices in liquid-liquid extraction with discussion of both commercial successes (what the technology does well) and current challenges to commercial implementation (opportunities for future work). Well known practices will be reviewed with respect to current needs and challenges, and emerging industrial developments will be described. Important considerations include available solvent choices (including “green” solvents), the type of processing equipment, and the wide variety of processing schemes that may be employed (including hybrid schemes).
