BioSUCCEED is an integrated and cooperative effort among three Universities to address the needs of the quickly evolving biomass & bioenergy climate. This presentation will provide content on one of the most important disciplines that the BioSUCCEED program is addressing: thermochemical transformations of wood and associated residuals to fuels. We will provide an overview of the state-of-the-art in thermochemical platforms, the gaps and challenges associated with its continued value, and several of the efforts that are being conducted in our laboratories that serve the basic mission of BioSUCCEED. We will focus on thermal desorption and torrefaction of biomass, particularly softwood and vegetative biomass.
