Advances in Small Scale Predictive Abilities

Wednesday, November 11, 2009: 8:30 AM
Bayou C (Gaylord Opryland Hotel)

Description:
We invite presentations on projects where small scale results were translated to pilot or manufacturing scale (scale-up) or vice versa (scale-down). Of most interest are projects i) with a large difference in scale (e.g. volume scale factor of 1000 or more), or where the laboratory scale was smaller than standard practice and ii) where the basis of successful scaling is understood and will be presented (e.g. in the form of dimensionless groups, or other models). We also welcome presentations where lab scale equipment was characterized experimentally (e.g. with respect to mixing, heat transfer) in order to then design appropriate experiments for successful scale-up.
