Control and Optimization of Smart and Multi-Scale Plants

Description:
Augmenting local control networks with real-time sensor and actuator networks challenges many of the assumptions in traditional process control and monitoring methods dealing with continuous measurement/actuation and dynamical systems linked through channels with flawless communication. An objective of this session is to bring together researchers who work in this emerging area of process control and operations. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, distributed predictive control architectures for networked control systems, networked control designs for fault-tolerant process operation, model-based and data-based fault detection and isolation using sensor networks, proactive fault-tolerant control and plant safe-parking approaches, and plant management/operation methods accounting for environmental, health, safety and economics considerations. Applications to chemical plants as well as distributed water and energy systems are welcome.
