Thoughts On Developing and Directing a Successful NSF IGERT Program

As stated by the National Science Foundation, IGERT is the NSF's "flagship interdisciplinary training program, educating U.S. Ph.D.

scientists and engineers by building on the foundations of their disciplinary knowledge with interdisciplinary training." What are the elements of a successful IGERT proposal and program? Some thoughts on this question will be provided in the context of the new IGERT program in Multidisciplinary Approaches to Sustainable Bioenergy at Colorado State University.
