This paper will address the role of the Engineering and Construction Company in the technology transfer and execution of a pilot plant project. The global structure of the major petrochemical and E&C corporations dictates that different phases of a pilot plant project be executed in different offices and countries. This may be the case if the site selection changes during the design or engineering stages. Thus the basic design may be performed near the R&D facilities, the detail engineering in another country, procurement and construction in a third. Proper coordination is essential for the successful execution of the project on time and within budget. Example, lessons learned and pitfalls to be avoided will be presented.
