In this session we want to tell the story of the area of computers in operations for the occasion of the centennial celebration of AIChE. The aim of the session is to provide a historical perspective of the area along with a forward looking view of what is expected and what should be done in the coming decades. We want to discuss the challenges of the past, the progress of the present, and the opportunities of the future. The session consists of 4 invited talks followed by a panel discussion.
