Recent Advances and Future Opportunities for Solvent Resistant Nanoporous Membranes

Ramesh Bhave, Materials Science & Technology Division, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-6116

During the past decade, there has been a growing interest in the

development of membrane-based processes, using solvent resistant

nanofiltration membranes, as alternatives to distillation,

crystallization and liquid-liquid extraction to improve efficiency of

many chemical and petrochemical applications. This paper will review

recent advances in the development and application of polymeric and

inorganic solvent resistant nanoporous membranes in these critically

important organic separations when used as standalone or in combination

with existing chemical/petrochemical operations.
