In this work, solubilities of b-carotene in supercritical carbon dioxide were measured in the temperature range of 313 to 333 K and at pressures up to 25 MPa. The experimental apparatus consisted on a high-pressure view-cell made of stainless steel. An alltech 426 and a micropump GAH series pump were tested in order to have the best equilibrium sample recirculation. Samples were taken from the cell and were sent online to an HPLC by using a two-way six-port valve. An external standard calibration method was used to quantify the b-carotene content in the supercritical solvent. Solute identification was performed in a DAD detector at 450 nm of wavelength. Experimental solubilities of b-carotene in supercritical carbon dioxide from this work were in agreement with those reported in literature in the studied range.
