Regulation of exhausting VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) is getting more concerned not only in USA and European countries but also in Asian counties. The conventional VOC abatement systems by combustion or recovering have been limited mainly to the treatment of high concentration VOC laden in exhausted gas. However, it is getting essential to consider VOC abatement system to handle large volume of air and lower concentration. Seibu Giken Co., Ltd. developed VOC concentrators operating with thermal swing adsorption for this purposes in 1989. Our VOC concentrators can separate the VOC laden air into clean product air and exhausted air with VOC concentrated higher than 10times by continuous adsorption-desorption of the honeycomb rotor impregnated with hydrophobic zeolite. It contributes to minimize the size of oxidizer or recovery equipment as well as to minimize the operation cost of such equipment. However, the VOC concentrator could not treat VOC having higher boiling point and VOC which tends to be polymerized easily because VOC would not be desorbed at a standard desorption temperature (180 ~ 200deg). Against these difficulties, we have developed a new system which enables to conduct desorption at higher temperature around 300deg. During the development of this system, some difficulties were encountered with the conventional air seal material in the view of heat-resistance and construction. By applying newly developed a hybrid seal (patent pending) performing superior heat resistance and better thermal insulation, we have completed more reliable and epoch-making system.
