Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Opal Membranes For Chiral Separations

Ilya Zharov, Chemistry, University of Utah, 315 So. 1400 E., Salt Lake City, UT 84102

The surface of self-assembled silica colloidal crystals has been modified with chiral selector moieties, either as a monolayer or as a polymer brush. The chiral selectivity of these membranes to the transport of chiral amino acid derivatives has been studied using cyclic voltammetry. The factors affecting the chiral permselectivity will be discussed.
