#525 - Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology in Water Treatment, Purification and Desalination (T1001)
This session will focus on the development and synthesis of novel new advanced materials and catalysts (zeolite, photocatalysts, nanosized metal or metal oxides catalysts, ceramic membranes or hybrid catalytic/chemical systems) and their applications in the physical and chemical treatment of pollutants in water, water purification and desalination. Papers dealing with applications of such materials or catalysts for the adsorption, catalytic reduction or oxidation of pollutants such as oxyanions (nitrate, perchlorate, arsenate), metal ions (lead, mercury), persistent organic contaminants (halocarbons, MTBE, antibiotics), disinfectant by-products and waterborne pathogens are also welcome. Papers dealing with the application of nanotechnology for novel membranes and other separation methods for water purification and desalination are also welcome. The session will also contain papers dealing with fundamental understanding of the interactions of the materials or catalysts with the water and its constituents, and the integration of catalytic materials in water purification systems.
