Jason Mustakis, Chemical R&D, Pfizer, Inc., Eastern Point Road Mail Stop 8156-70, Groton, CT 06340

Palladium catalyzed couplings are the workhorse of the modern synthetic chemistry. Unfortunately scaling up such reactions often provide significant challenges. Issues related to the phase of the reaction the fate of the catalyst and the formation of the active species are central in understanding the mechanism but more importantly be able to troubleshoot on scale. We are going to examine two examples of such reactions and the tools used to achieve a better – smoother scale up process.
