Axial Diffusion of Simple Gases in Nanochannels

Jonathan Pappas and E. Bruce Nauman. Isermann Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 110 8th St., Ricketts Bldg., Troy, NY 12180

The diffusion of simple fluids modeled as Lennard Jones particles through nanochannel domains is examined by computer simulation and compared to classical transport theory and recently developed models. The wall boundary condition is found to violate the no slip condition assumed in macroscopic fluid flow. The complicated near wall transport properties are described and a new model for axial mobility is presented. Transient and steady state tranport are measured and discussed.
