Organics catalytically decompose on titania catalysts at room temperature in the presence of UV light. Both their rates and product distributions are changed by low concentrations of Pt on the TiO2. Photocatalytic decomposition was studied by transient reaction at room temperature, and products remaining on the surface were analyzed by temperature-programmed desorption. The effect of water on photocatlytic decompostion rates was studied.
