#560 - Stem Cell Engineering (15D07)
Stem cell engineering is an emerging field in biomedicine and holds a great promise for the development of technologies that will help heal damaged tissues and replace nonfunctioning organs. One can genetically manipulate either a disorder or the immunocompatibility of stem cells due to their inherent self renewal ability. Further, recent advances in the novel property of ?plasticity? has generated immense interests in using stem cells as a cell source for regenerating tissues; by providing a conducive microenvironment i.e. cell-substrate interactions, one can regulate stem cell differentiation and proliferation to needed cell types. This adds another dimension to using stem cells ?off the shelf? for developing functionally replaceable tissues. This session will invite papers on these stem cell topics, spanning from basic quantitative cell biology to product design
