Effect of Flux Rate on Depth Filter Throughput and Effluent Quality Using Mammalian Cell Culture Feed Streams
Todd E. Arnold, Scientific Application Support Services, Cuno, Inc., 400 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450
Both depth filter throughput capacity and effluent quality can greatly impact downstream product processing costs. Many process parameters affect filtration performance. One of these critical parameters is flux rate. This workshop will begin by introducing the mechanisms of depth filtration. It will then follow into a discussion on the effect of flux rate on depth filter media throughput capacity and effluent quality. Case studies specific to mammalian cell culture feed streams will be presented to show the impact of flux rate on the depth filter media performance as a result of varying contaminant residence time.
