As the worldwide demand for liquid fuels increases, ethanol production is growing as well and represents the largest bio-based, renewable fuel. The selection of feedstock is discussed as it relates to availability and processing technology employed in different regions around the world. Various technologies and processing schemes are presented that facilitate the efficient conversion of the selected feedstock to ethanol and by-products.
