#415 - Forest Products Biorefineries II (17005)
Future biorefineries will process lignocellulosic biomass to produce fuels and materials for societal use. Biofuels relieve the society's dependence on limited and narrowly distributed fossil fuels while at the same time being renewable. They also help mitigate global warming effects by sequestering the fuel carbon from the atmosphere on a short cycle. Forest biomass is one of the key resources for future biofuels and bioproducts. This session will focus on the downstream processes including separations, fermentation and such for manufacturing biofuels and bioplastics from lignocellulosic forest biomass.
