The role of mechanistic modeling in pharma API process development will be discussed and illustrated by examples from our Quality by Design initiative. When a process is understood a mechanistic level, and this understanding is captured in a DynoChem model, it is possible to save significant development time in determining viable operating ranges. Application to a chemical reaction step will be used for illustration.
