Silica-Based Nanoparticles For Boron Neutron Capture Therapy

Ilya Zharov, Chemistry, University of Utah, 315 So. 1400 E., Salt Lake City, UT 84102

Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a binary type of cancer therapy that requires a substantial number of boron atoms to be delivered specifically to cancer cells. Preparation, characterization and cell targeting studies of novel fluorescent silica nanospheres incorporating a large number of boron atoms through a surface polymerization or a sol-gel process will be described.
