Benchmarking Packing Performance Correlations With A Nonequilibrium Model
Harry Kooijman and Ross Taylor, Chemical Engineering, Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY 13699

Recently published correlations for predicting capacity, pressure drop and mass transfer were benchmarked on distillation test data of modern random and structured packings, using the nonequilibrium simulator ChemSep. The new models are compared to the established correlations and some recommendations are made for when to apply which correlation dependent on packing type. Packings include Sulzer Mellapak (Plus), Raschig Super-pak, Montz B(M), Flexipak (HC), Raschig Super-Ring, amongst others.
