The Smart Plant optimizes the use of people and technology to extract maximum value from its assets for the good of the enterprise as a whole. In this presentation fundamentals for the Smart Plant and opportunities for chemical engineers will be presented. Chemical engineers are expected to play key roles in the research, development, design, support, operation, and maintenance of Smart Plants. Smart Plants are generally achievable within five years.
