Nanophase Technologies Corporation has developed new surface treatment technologies for nanoparticles. The new surface treatments may be applied to a wide range of nanoparticle types and chemistries and enable the nanoparticle interface to be tailored to meet targeted market applications. These surface treatments were developed in response to specific customer feedback and the first product employing this technology has been launched by BASF, Nanophase's partner. The product is Z-Cote Max and is an OTC active for use in suncare and personal care products.

Concept feasibility was demonstrated and the process was scaled to produce commercial quantities within 18 months.

Applications of this technology will be described. Materials from the process will be described with specific attention given to differentiating characteristics which enable targeted applications.
