Renewable Polymers for Sustainable Growth

Joseph V. Kurian, CR&D, DuPont Bio-Based Materials, Experimental Station, E402/4311, Wilmington, DE 19880

There is a growing need to develop bio-based materials that provide performance and functionality equivalent to or better than petroleum based materials. DuPont is committed to researching and developing technologies to increase the use of renewable materials and reduce dependency on depletable or petroleum-based resources. There are many diverse applications for bio-based products ranging from fibers and fabrics, inks, and coatings to construction materials and packaging. This presentation will focus on recent developments in Bio-PDO (1,3-propanediol) and DuPont™ Sorona® polymer, as well as exploring future directions and opportunities.
